2012 Regional Runners-Up

Congratulations to our Viking Wrestlers on a tremendous weekend.

Way back in November we started our first dual with 10 new starters. This weekend we qualified 7 wrestlers for the NCHSAA 3A State Championships, including first year wrestler and senior, Andreas Berryman. Seeded 8th in the regional championship bracket, Andreas lost in overtime to the #1 seed in the quarterfinals and then battled back pinning each of his opponents before finding himself in a rematch with the #1 seed. This time they would be wrestling for third place and Andreas would avenge his loss by pinning his opponent. Andreas went 4-1 in the tournament with each of his wins coming by pin. Andreas' efforts is indicative of our entire team's effort and progress throughout this season. We would like to share our appreciation for all of our wrestlers' hard work this season.

Joining Andreas at the NCHSAA 3A State Championships are Samuel Bartram (Fr) 113lbs, Phillip Mondi (Sr) 120lbs, Jaiden Lindsey (Sr) 126lbs, Ryan Hull (Jr) 132lbs, Mike Brennan (Sr) 182lbs, and Joshua Huskey (Sr) 220lbs.

Vikes' Summer Camp Plans

The Vikings Wrestling Staff has set up a fantastic camp schedule for the program this year.

This summer will be an "all-Ohio" trip as we leave Cameron, NC for Urbana, OH, home of St Paris Graham High School and Jeff Jordan's State Champ Camp.

We will leave the cornfields of Urban and head North to Cleveland, the home of another storied and historica national powerhouse, St. Edwards High School. In Cleveland we will attend the Northeast Ohio Champions Wrestling Camp led by our own Coach Vondruska.

It is our goal that by providing you camp information at the earliest possible time, we can maximize attendance this year. Please reserve 24 June through 8 July on your calendars for camp! We do need help with transportation this information along with camp costs and deadlines are detailed on the attached flyer.

Wrestling Updates 2-15-12

Parents, Supporters, and Alumni,

As the season is winding down I have a couple of congratulations and updates.

Congrats to Michael Brennan for being voted as the Cape Fear Valley Conference Wrestler of the year!!!!!!!!!. Mike is currently 43-0 on the season.

We move on to regionals this weekend in quest for a 3A state title. We travel to Morehead High School this Friday February 17^th. Action starts at 6:00pm. Wrestling starts at 8:30am on Saturday. I will travel to Burlington tonight for the seeding meeting to find out who qualifies. Top 4 this weekend advance to the state tournament next weekend. This weekend we are staying at the Jameson Inn in Eden.

The state tournament is next Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. This is the first year for us having a three day tournament. Wrestling starts at 5:00 on Thursday February 23^rd at the Greensboro Coliseum. We will be staying at the Wingate by Wyndham in Greensboro off of Wendover Avenue.
