Four of our high school aged Copperheads were in action this weekend at Parkland High School in Winston Salem. At 113lbs, Mike Fedowitz started out strong with two wins placing himself in contention for the tournament title with a spot in the semi-finals. However, an injury in his first match of the day continued to present itself and hamper his performance. With the start of the high school season just 19 days away, the coaching staff made a decision to sit Mike for the rest of the day rather than risk further injury. Life lesson of the day: Risk vs Reward. Feel free to ask Mike about the 40 year old - first time motorcycle owner analogy.

At 126lbs Sam Bartram was finally back in competition after a 4 week lay off. He responded well but lost to two Christianburg High School wrestlers who capitalized on Sam's "mat rust." 

At 138lbs Ryan Hull stormed dominated in his matches until he reached the finals. In his finals match he took an early lead and stayed ahead to earn a convincing victory over an opponent whom beat him in over time a week earlier at the Dirty South tournament.

At 145lbs Tim Squires competed steadfastly making his opponents earn every point. While 0-2 for the day, Tim's success is not measured by wins and losses but by his committment to getting better. Competing this past Saturday was another demonstration of this committment.

Next up on the Copperheads' schedule? Ryan and Sam will represent the team at the Super 32 Challenge, the largest and toughest preseason tournament in the nation. On 20 October, 1900 wrestlers will take the mats at the Greensboro Coliseum to compete over two days. Check out this article from Intermat which previews the tournament. For our wrestlers not competing in the Super 32, we encourage them to attend this exceptionally priced clinic at Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, NC. Coach Bartram is available to drive or attend with anyone that wants to attend. Details are below, our coaching staff needs your committment by end of practice on Tuesday.
